Spreading Kindness & Positivity

Hey readers! I’m not going to lie, I have been feeling a little uninspired lately and haven’t been able to come up with anything to write about on the blog. Then the other day while I was on a walk in Boston, I was inspired! Along the walk I usually take, there were hand-painted rocks scattered on the ground, on benches, and amidst flowers and tree trunks. These rocks were painted with quotes and images that immediately brought a smile to my face. This is an amazing way to spread positivity in your town or city, and a great way to get kids involved.

While you are safe inside with your kids during this time, I imagine that you are looking for things to do. Pediatric OTs, you can even use this as an activity during a therapy session! This is a fun activity that works on skills like eye-hand coordination, fine motor skills, bimanual coordination, visual scanning, and more!

First, go outside and collect a handful of rocks big enough to paint on.

Second, start painting! Think of positive words and quotes that you can use to lift someone’s spirits.

Third, once they’re dry, go to your local park, trail, or your neighborhood and place them along the route people will likely walk.

That’s it! So much fun, and it feels great to know that you are brightening someone’s day with these words and paintings.

Once I noticed that these rocks were scattered all along my walk, it turned into the most fun scavenger hunt! I loved searching for and reading every single rock on my walk. It truly brightened my mood and is a wonderful way to spread kindness and positivity. If you do something like this in your town, I would love to see some pictures! Tag me on Instagram if you do.

Thanks for reading! I hope you are staying safe and healthy during this time. First responders and essential workers: THANK YOU. You are all heroes.

  1. Hi from New Hampshire! It’s so great to see something positive happening in Boston. 💕 From a language perspective, I love this activity for following directions!
